About Me

David Nicholson, LMFT

Thank you for visiting my web site. I extend a very warm welcome to those who would like to find out more about me and are considering starting therapy.

I received my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Capella University. I am an LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist) and a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy and the Pennsylvania Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. I am also a member of ICEEFT – The International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy and the Philadelphia Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy. I have completed my EFT Externship and Core Skills Training.

I am also a member of EMDRIA (International Association of EMDR). I have also completed my Basic training in EMDR Therapy. I am trained to provide couples, individual, group and family therapy.

I am drawn to EFT for couples therapy and EMDR Therapy for individuals for a couple important reasons. First, they are effective and potentially transforming approaches that are supported by extensive research and also yield positive outcomes in clinical settings for many thousands of people. Secondly, they both rely heavily on the therapeutic alliance – the relationship that develops between therapists and their clients. Developing a positive, connected and therapeutic relationship with my clients is one of my greatest strengths, so practicing EFT and EMDR Therapy have come very naturally to me.

I have a private practice in West Chester, PA, in the heart of Chester County.

Give me a call and we can talk about the issues that concern you, discover whether I seem like a good fit for you, and see if the investment in therapy is something you want to pursue.

Amy Borla, Intern

I believe that every relationship is as unique as the people in it, but sometimes couples fall into common dynamics that damage trust and connection. When things get off track, each person has the ability to reestablish a deep and loving connection — sometimes it just takes a little help breaking free of those negative patterns. I appreciate how Emotionally Focused Therapy follows a proven framework for creating and reinforcing a higher level of communication with one another. The EFT success rate with couples who complete therapy has not been matched by any other model of couple’s therapy. Personally, I have experienced the benefits of viewing my relationships through the lens of attachment theory and look forward to the privilege of doing the same with you as it gives a powerful pathway to healing your relationship.

I’m currently a graduate student pursuing my Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy at Capella University. I am excited about working with all relationships including members of the LGBTQ community. When I’m not in the classroom, I can be found playing board games with my husband and kids, knitting, doing all kinds of crafts, and playing the ukulele.
